SRP Innovation Will Save You Money

The current SRP board has lost its way as an innovator —and it is costing you money.

Over 100 years ago SRP built hydroelectric dams at a time when people said it was too expensive.

Yet they generated clean energy for decades, paid off the federal dam construction loans in the 1950s, and they’ve been delivering affordable electricity ever since.

But in the past decade:

  • The Board has allowed data centers to drive up system demand so dramatically that you are footing the bill.

  • The Board has raised customer bills five of the last five years.

  • The Board charges you a much higher rates if you add solar to your home.

  • The Board has under-funded the programs that could save you money on energy efficient improvements to their homes or businesses, which in turn help us all avoid the high capital costs of new power plants.

If elected I will support a more creative and innovative SRP Board, which increases your energy freedom and keep rates low:

  • Require data centers to build their own clean energy capacity in coordination with SRP, so they can’t shift their capital costs to you.

  • Invest in more battery infrastructure that stabilizes the grid while allowing your family or business to save money with solar panels.

  • Support a “virtual power plant”, or VPP program, which saves you money on home batteries while helping SRP protect against service interruptions. Stay tuned for a separate blog post explaining this exciting innovation.

  • Expand SRP energy efficiency programs for locally-owned businesses to help them save money on energy, while benefiting the entire grid.

  • Better inform you about your property-based voting rights.

SRP could save you money by leaning in to innovation.

I need your help.

I’m up against huge amounts of money. We can only win with three things:

  • your personal contributions (at this link), especially if you’ve already made a commitment;

  • your volunteer time (at this link) to speak to neighbors directly;

  • and when you share these emails with your friends.

I only email once per week. I don’t spam. So, please encourage your friends to sign up. You will need these emails when it comes time to vote, in order to navigate SRP’s confusing voting rules.

Please join one of my community meet-n-greets at this link. Your neighbors host them. We make them fun and informative, rather than an uncomfortable fundraising pitch.

Thank you!!
