Salt River Project was an innovator when people said it couldn’t be done.
The current SRP board has lost its way as an innovator —and it is costing you money.
Over 100 years ago SRP built hydroelectric dams at a time when people said it was too expensive.
Yet they generated clean energy for decades, paid off the federal dam construction loans decades ago, and they’ve been delivering affordable electricity ever since.
But in the past decade:
The Board has allowed data centers to drive up system demand so dramatically that you are footing the bill.
The Board has raised customer bills five of the last five years.
The Board charges you a much higher rates if you add solar to your home.
The Board has under-funded the programs that could save you money on energy efficient improvements to their homes or businesses, which in turn help us all avoid the high capital costs of new power plants.
SRP can rediscover its place in history as an innovator.
If elected I will support a more creative and innovative SRP Board, which increases your energy freedom:
Require data centers to build their own clean energy capacity in coordination with SRP, so they can’t shift their capital costs to you.
Invest in battery infrastructure that stabilizes the grid while allowing your family or business to save money with solar panels.
Support a “virtual power plant”, or VPP program, which saves you money on home batteries while helping SRP protect against service interruptions.
Expand SRP energy efficiency programs for locally-owned businesses to help them save money on energy, while benefiting the entire grid.
